The Save The Crape Myrtles Organization

The Save the Crape Myrtles Organization is a non-profit organization to promote and distribute good scientific information for healthy Crape Myrtle tree care. The Crape Myrtle tree (Lagerstroemia sp.) has suffered disastrous damage over many years due to gross miss-information.

There are many individuals with respectable titles that encourage aggressive and destructive pruning practices along with other forms of Crape Myrtle neglect that have been absorbed into the mainstream.

Our mission is to stop this miss-information and to develop a network of Crape Myrtle experts. The Crape Myrtle tree is one of our most precious gems and is a celebration in the landscape, and its protection is vital to promoting good science in the field.

We promote sustainable practices with bio-diversity and integrated pest management/biological control systems. If you are new to these practices please be patient and study.

The senseless acts of aggressive pruning along with other neglect are commonly referred to as “CRAPE MURDER”.

            What were these people thinking?

Many stewards of landscaping and arboriculture are miss-informed that Crape Myrtle pruning is “sculpture” rather than an exact science. This leads to the “monkey-see-monkey-do” attitude between competitors that have led to an irresponsible system of poor Crape Myrtle management on a huge scale.

Hopefully this site will be an intervention to confront Crape Murderers and aid in the rejuvenation of Crape Myrtle trees and return them to their happy and natural state.
